Duties: Manage day-to-day processing of mission critical materials & components in metal finishing shop; provide metal finishing expertise to engineers, physicists & scientists; plan, design & implement complex processes associated with Ultra-High Vacuum beamline components & plating.
Requirements: Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Biochemistry, or related field. 5 years of supervisory experience in metal finishing (cleaning & plating). Experience to include a solid background in each of the following: shop throughput management; metal finishing methods & processes; quality assurance best practices, including performing chemical analysis to maintain quality processes & parts; basic vacuum science technology & cleaning material for reduction in outgassing for stainless steel, copper, & aluminum; managing the treatment & handling of process-generated hazardous wastes; wastewater treatment; procedure development & management; work planning & control; safety protocols. Ability to work & communicate effectively with both scientific & non-technical personnel. Good presentation skills with excellent written & oral communication skills.
