Great Lakes Crystal Technologies, Inc. seeks Mechanical Engineering Lead in East Lansing, MI.
Job Duties:
• Model, fabricate and build CVD diamond growth reactor's mechanical systems, equipment, systems or process from concept to lab/production equipment. Under the direction of the lead engineer and technical advisor.
• Lead system top-level design efforts, including applying DFMA/Lean design, planning development timeline, and approving and validating design modifications
• Develop and approve mechanical process including design (2D drawing/3D model/assemble schematic standard), procurement (RFQ, bill of material (BOM)) and testing/analysis (approval test procedure (ATP), design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA))
• Collaborate with PIs and PMs on project execution, leading the effort of planning and managing tool build projects.
• Lead the mechanical engineers' team and the reactor tool build team on reactor build, research, and development.
• Mentor, guide, and review the mechanical team on diverse production/R&D/engineer projects.
• Lead reactors build meetings, technical meetings, and continuous reactor improvement initiatives. Provide weekly updates and compose reports from the team members.
• Plan and execute reactor build projects with designing, purchasing, assembling, and testing timelines using Gantt charts and reports.
• Support the R&D team in allocating engineering team resources on equipment development, engineering solutions, and prototype experimental initiatives.
• Collaborate with Operations to plan the maintenance plan for all company equipment, assign engineers and technicians for maintenance tasks, and document the process.
• Ensure installation equipment is qualified and validated when operating following design specifications and performance requirements.
• Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems by applying microwave, mechanical, thermodynamic, vacuum, and optical knowledge.
• Participate and address key manufacturing indicators in the production team as the responsible engineer of the diamond growth reactor and holder making process.
• Investigate and implement operating procedures, resolving system malfunctions, or providing technical support on the company's equipment (including diamond reactor, RIE, polishing, characterization, cleaning, and laser).
• Communicate and coordinate with external vendors for parts sourcing, fabrication services, and custom solutions.
